Over the course of the years I have met quite a lot of clients/patients in my practice with diabetes. Some
of them had already been diagnosed with diabetes but with others I suspected it.
I have seen wonderful results and thought that if I knew more about the symptoms I would be in a better
position to help and support them. It will enable me to provide a preliminary risk assessment of a new or
existing client. When I feel the risk appears, I can send them for further examination. It is very important
to be able to easily diagnose it and to get the people at risk into the hands of medical professionals.
It is important for me as a therapist to be aware of diabetes because too many people are going
undiagnosed. I can identify a client who, from their lifestyle, body characteristics and symptoms that are
going unrecognised, are at risk. I can then carry out treatments in a way that recognises that a client is
either at risk or give a treatment that is helpful and supportive.
The most common disorder is diabetes mellitus. This is due to a partial or full deficiency of the hormone
insulin being produced, causing a disorder of the carbohydrate metabolism in which sugar is not
oxidised to produce energy. There are two types; non-insulin dependent and insulin dependent.
It has been shown that the pancreas and its islets that produce insulin can recover very quickly if
exposed to the proper healing environment. By addressing the major stressors which underlie the
disease, through homeopathic treatment, Cranio Sacral therapy, nutritional counseling and herbal
cleanses, even if 90% of them were destroyed at least 50% of them can recover so insulin is no longer
necessary.
In my practice I work mainly with Cranio Sacral therapy, emotional release and Bach Flowers.
Homeopathic remedies derive from plants, minerals and animal sources. It is bio-energetic in nature.
Homeopathy is customised for each individual according to their mental, physical and emotional
symptoms, as well as their personal characteristics. Therefore, even though there might be several
people with the same disease, they will need completely different remedies to get to the root of their
disease. For example, a person with diabetes might also have hypothyroidism or occasionally suffers
with migraines or tends to be nervous. A good practitioner will take all this into account and therefore
prescribe "Phosphorus" because this is the remedy that best matches his/her symptoms.
Cranio Sacral therapy is a light hands-on pressure to various parts of the body with major focus on the
head and spine. Cranio Sacral improves the movement of the blood and other fluids through the body
tissues, increasing resistance to disease invasions. It also improves the brain and the spinal cord, as well
as restoring the flexibility and adaptability of the nervous system. This therapy also reduces accumulated
physiological stress levels. With Cranio Sacral therapy we also work with the thymus gland and the
whole immune system with amazing results.
In reflexology we may come into contact with eye related problems, so we always check the eye zone in
the second or third toe. Kidney problems may also arise in this disorder, and this reflex area will be very
tender when we begin to apply pressure and palpitation. A tenderness may be felt all through the same
zone as the eyes. The liver and pancreatic areas will also be tender. It is imperative that care is taken so
that there is nothing that can scratch a patient's skin, as loss of feeling and hypersensitivity are common
in the feet. Particular problems to be aware of with this disorder are peripheral neuropathy with
unexplained loss of sensations and pain. This will make the person more at risk from unnoticed wounds
and hence infection.
Reflexology will help balance all the systems of the body and make the person relax completely. A good
general treatment is one that focuses on the pancreas area as this will help to stimulate any remaining
insulin cells. The liver is the area to work on to ensure functioning of its many metabolic functions. The
liver has an active detoxification process. We also work with the immune system, the thymus and spleen
to help trigger the body's defence system.
I have also experienced that most people with diabetes are very negative and do not have any confidence
in life. During my Cranio Sacral therapy treatments I try to get rid of all this negativity, anger and
resentment and try to make them see that life has so much to offer.
With the combination of reflexology, Cranio Sacral therapy, counseling and diet we can achieve a very
great deal.
In our clinic we incorporate these therapies so that our patients will have far reaching beneficial effects
sooner. When any changes are made that can affect blood glucose levels, careful monitoring of blood
sugar levels must be done. Therefore, self-diagnosis and self-treatment of diabetes is not advised.
Individuals should work closely, and only make changes, with a qualified healthcare practitioner.
